The Circle

The Circle is a TV show on Channel 4, whose international rights were later signed by Netflix.

The television programme is an isolated popularity contest akin to Big Brother. The system we built provided the ability to interact with the contestants, including controlling the displays on their individual screens and enforcing navigation to various games including announcements, one-to-one and group messaging.

During our takeover of the project, we did the following,

• Fixed specialist bugs beyond the skill of the original developers
• Performance testing and improvements where user interaction was lagging
• Updated WebSocket message architecture to ensure that the system was taking advantage of the
• Features provided by using sockets
• Added security features for the server
• End-to-end messaging for one-to-one and group messaging
• Live typing indicators
• Data Storage and table definition

The tech utilised during the development included:
