Live by the Sword: Tactics

Live by the Sword: Tactics is a tactical Role laying Game (ROG).  The game's development process involved a combination of traditional tabletop game design principles and digital game development techniques.

Game Design Phase

  • Concept Development: The game's core concept was established, focusing on a streamlined tactical RPG experience with a focus on strategic combat and character customization.

  • Gameplay Mechanics: The game's rules, mechanics, and character classes were designed and refined through playtesting sessions, ensuring a balanced and engaging gameplay experience.

  • Component Design: The game's board, tokens, cards, and other physical components were designed to be visually appealing and easy to use.


Digital Game Development Phase

  • Digital Game Engine: The Unity game engine was chosen for its versatility and support for 2D graphics and tactical gameplay.

  • Programming: The game's core mechanics, character AI, and user interface were programmed using Unity's C# scripting language.

  • Art Assets: The game's character sprites, environment backgrounds, and UI elements were created using digital art tools like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

  • Sound Design: The game's sound effects, music, and voiceovers were created and implemented to enhance the overall atmosphere and immersion.

  • Testing and Iteration: The digital game underwent extensive testing and refinement to identify and fix bugs, balance gameplay, and improve the overall user experience.


The game's development process combined the traditional approach of board game design with the modern tools and techniques of digital game development. This resulted in a streamlined tactical RPG that captures the essence of tabletop gaming while offering a polished and engaging digital experience.
